IREFCON 2024: 15th India International Refractories Congress held successfully

Dec. 9, 2024 - The 15th India International Refractories Congress (IREFCON 2024), organized by Indian Refractory Makers Association (IRMA), was successfully held during 13-15th of November 2024 at Taj Cidade de Goa Horizon, Goa, India.
As one of the most awaited events in the refractory sector, IREFCON 2024 brought together industry leaders, researchers, and experts to share their technical expertise, to explore business opportunities, and to talk about the latest trends in the refractory industry.
With the theme of "Powering A Greener Future Together", IREFCON 2024 demonstrated the industry’s commitment to the environment, and emphasized that the global community is becoming more aware of the impacts of climate change, so refractories must reduce their carbon footprint.
The main aim of the event was to analyze how the refractory industry contributes to sustainability by incorporating a Reduce-Reuse-Recycle approach. With the evolution of steel manufacturing procedures, it is crucial to recognize how these advancements impact the refractory lining systems that support them.
IREFCON 2024 showcased that there are multiple opportunities for a sustainable future, highlighting the industry’s attempts to make it a reality. As the refractory industry faces a global issue of reducing its negative environmental impact, the theme “Powering A Greener Future Together” serves as a reminder for the refractories sector to take necessary steps to deal with climate change.

ABOUT IREFCON
As the national level conferences on refractories in India, IREFCON commenced in early 1970s and the first overseas participation in refractories conference in India was in the year 1978. Subsequently several international conferences were attempted and in 1993 a decision was taken in principle to organize biannual international conference on refractories on the lines of UNITECR. With the liberalization of the economic policy and coming into effect of the World Trade Organization in 1994, the industry felt the need for closer interaction with the global refractories community. The first India International Refractories Congress (or IREFCON) was held in 1994 and this has continued every alternate year except for a miss out in 2004 and 2020. The IREFCON’24 is therefore the fifteenth in the series.
